Tim McWilliams – Banjo, Guitar, Mandolin, and Ukulele Teacher


Tim McWilliams is an accomplished flat-picking and finger-style guitarist, embodying the diverse roots music traditions of Western North Carolina.  Upon receiving his M.A. in Appalachian Music: Roots & Influences from Appalachian State University in 2014,Tim launched his career as a professional musician with a three month cross-country tour.  Since then, he has performed full-time as a guitarist, songwriter, vocalist, and banjoist with the acoustic roots group Redleg Husky.  In 2017, he received an endorsement from Larrivee Guitars and performed more than 250 shows on stages throughout the greater Southeast.  In 2018, the group released their new album, “Don’t Be Bashful,” and performed at many notable regional festivals including LEAF, Fall for Greenville, and the Downtown Asheville Independence Day Celebration alongside acclaimed bluegrass guitarist Larry Keel.  

Tim not only has years of experience as a private music instructor, but also has experience teaching as an AmeriCorps member with the Cincinnati Youth Collaborative, and as an Instructor of Record at Appalachian State University.  Tim pairs his deep knowledge of diverse musical styles and techniques with his love for teaching, enabling students to quickly increase their skills and gain a deep appreciation for the music they are learning.
